6-7My counsel for you is simple and straightforward: Just go ahead with what you've been given. You received Christ Jesus, the Master; now live him. You're deeply rooted in him. You're well constructed upon him. You know your way around the faith. Now do what you've been taught. School's out; quit studying the subject and start living it! And let your living spill over into thanksgiving. (The Message)
I have a problem sometimes that can be paralyzing when left unchecked. For lack of a better term let's call it infoites. It is the need to have enough information to make the right decision. The problem is that there seems to be a never ending supply of more information available. The search for information can at times overwhelm the level of decision that needs to be made. At some point in time I have to give up making the right decision and become comfortable with making the best decision.
Paul urges the people of Colossi to move out of the study mode and into the living mode. Paul would be all for gaining knowledge when it comes to a life of faith but he would not understand our current Christian culture that at times seems to elevate knowledge above action. His encouragement to start living the faith is a message that each one of us should hear and put into practice.
Some thoughts to ponder and share with others:
- From what you know about Paul's teaching what do you think he would expect from someone who is living their faith?
- What are you more likely to do; try to get more information before you act or act quickly without regards to what other information might be available?
- What are you more comfortable doing, Gaining more knowledge about Jesus or living out what you know about Jesus? Why do you think this is true?
- What one think about the Jesus life do you know that you can put into practice today?
